With Thanksgiving now a glorious gastronomic memory and Christmas soon upon us, the holiday season for gratitude and giving is in full swing. On Tuesday December 3, 2013, global charities, families, businesses, community centers, students and more will come together to create #GivingTuesday. This national day of giving celebrates and encourages charitable activities that support nonprofit organizations.
National Geographic welcomes Giving Tuesday and its powerful message about the importance of giving back. Help give the next generation a better planet by supporting our mission today. Your donation will support grantees and explorers who are working to preserve species and habitats, protect cultures, and advance understanding of our world.
Since the publication of the very first magazine in 1888, 125 years ago this year, the National Geographic Society has unearthed stories of boundless adventure, discovery, and cultural awakening. For over one hundred of those years, the Society has fostered its grant-giving program, cultivating many of the scientists, adventurers, movers and shakers that often fill the pages of the magazine.
Who are these explorers? People like primatologist Jane Goodall, ocean explorer Robert Ballard, and the legendary Leakey family who have made significant contributions to our understanding of human origins.
Many of these explorers have even partnered with National Geographic to champion their own society-wide initiatives. Learn more about the initiatives your donations will help support:
