By the time it’s complete, ANISA will have collected data on 64,700 newborns, and expects to treat 6,500 possible cases of newborn sepsis. Blood and respiratory specimens from these babies will be processed to look for 28 different infection-causing bacteria and viruses, using both conventional and molecular technologies, says Samir K. Saha of the Child Health Research Foundation.
