← Back to Working for Water: The Bangweulu Wetlands and Africa’s Shoebill…

“An important area within the Bangweulu Wetlands GMA is Chimbwe plain, home to the endemic black lechwe. This plain floods during the rainy season and is the spawning grounds for all the important fish species. The shallow waters are particularly nutrient rich because of all the lechwe dung that is deposited here during the year, which fertilizes the waters and creates a rich environment for fish reproduction.”
