Scaly-breasted munias can become feral outside of their distributional range with escaped birds establishing themselves in areas with suitable climate. Escaped or introduced populations have been recorded in the West Indies, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, Australia, Japan and the southern United States (mainly Florida and California).
